It’s been unusually hot here. The locals are saying that it’s hot too, so I know it’s not just me. But the heat has given some particularly clear skies and today I can see Redando, Monterrat, Nevis & St. Kitts and Guadeloupe from my deck. The last three island are roughly 45 miles from my doorstep.

It’s also generated some nice heat lightening in the evenings. One evening, I was able to watch lightening through binoculars.

Rant. I’ve given up on Adobe Lightroom. I’m tired of it’s slow behavior even with 4 GB of RAM and its 100% CPU usage. What is going on over there? I have had so many stability problems with Lightroom that I’ve decided to try CaptureOne finally. I’ll keep a copy of Lightroom around that I can access my old libraries with, but I’m through with you man. Sayonara.

I already gave up on Apple Aperture. I bought and stuck with it through the beginning of version 2.0 but it actually ATE my library and wouldn’t give me the files back. Other people were having the problem too. Then they released version 2.0 which was supposed to have a fix for the problem. I don’t know if it’s true or not, because Apple wanted all the loyal buyers to pay an extra $99 to get the bug fix. My photos were gone and Apple it felt like Apple was extortion to get them back. At that point, I promised to never use Aperture ever again.

Professional software, especially for a market like photography, and especially when they are charging professional prices, should be held to a higher standard than either of these products have held up. I’m hoping that CaptureOne, a little guy, is trying harder.
